How to Install, Configure, Manage, and TroubIeshoot Fax Support



Windows 10 can provide complete fax facilities from your computer. It provides you with the capability to send and receive faxes with a locally attached fax device, or with a remote fax device connected on your network. You can track and monitor fax activity as well. Windows 10 contains software already and  is called “Windows Fax and Scan


To send or receive a fax from a Windows 10 Computer using Windows Fax and Scan you will need the following
  • A computer running Windows 10
  • Modem or Fax Board on the computer (Most of the  computers that have a telephone line connection have this ability)
  • A land-line phone line. The phone line should not be a VoIP phone connection as VoIP signals usually scramble a fax signal
  • A document to send
When using Windows Fax and Scan as a fax machine, the computer needs always to be on and connected to the phone line to receive a fax.

How to Configure Windows Fax and Scan in Windows 10

 start menu
Click on “Tools” then “Fax Accounts”
Select “Add” to have your fax modem installed
Choose between Automatic or Manual Answering of the phone line
 Go to “Tools” and “Fax Settings” to configure additional options

How to send a Fax in Windows 10 Fax and Scan

 START button, select All Programs, and select “Windows Fax and Scan
On the toolbar  select “New Fax” – if this is the first time that a fax is being sent, you’ll be directed to the new fax wizard. This will allow you to set all the required settings to send a fax.
Create your fax, and then click send

How to receive a Fax in Windows 10 Fax and Scan

 “Start” button, type “Fax” in the search box, then select“Windows Fax and Scan”
Select “Fax
Select “Tools” and then “Fax Settings”.
Select the “General” tab, then  “Allow device to receive fax calls” button is checked in “Send / Receive Options”
Select “Automatically Answer after ___ Rings”,  then select “Ok”



The Outbox of the fax console in windows 10 contains all faxes waiting to be sent or in the process of being sent, whether the faxes were sent using a locally attached fax device or a network fax device. You can right-click any fax shown, and then press DELETE or click Delete on the File menu to delete the fax. When you right-click a fax, you can also click Pause to me vent it from being sent or click Resume to place a fax that you paused back in the queue to be sent. If a fax fails, you can right-click the fax and click Restart to attempt to resend the fax. Finally, when you right-click a fax, you can click Save As to save a copy of the fax, Mail To to mail a copy of the fax to someone, or Print to print a copy of the fax.

The Incoming box allows you to manage incoming faxes in the same manner that the Outgoing box helps you manage outgoing faxes. You can click the Incoming box, and then right-click a fax to delete, pause, resume, save, mail to someone, and print the fax. You can also click Properties to view the properties of an incoming fax.
