Brazil discovers a giant termite nest the size of Britain

These mounds are built with a mixture of soil, manure and saliva that are generated by termites.

In Brazil, the American botanist and expert Roy Funch English in social insects, Stephen Martin, have discovered the existence of a gigantic nest finish occupies a territory of about 230,000 square meters and has 200 million mounds. In addition, the structure would be about 4,000 years old.

According to Funch, "it is the largest visible construction project developed by an animal, not counting the human being." The mounds range between 2 and 4 meters high, and are separated from each other by a distance of around 20 meters.

Although many consider termites as a pest because many species feed on wood, these insects are one of the best 'engineers' on the planet.
