Hearing "talk" to a mummy: the not-so-crazy idea that researchers have carried out with 3D printing and other tools

As an experiment it is striking and certainly original, but how did they come up with the idea? In Gizmodo they have been able to talk to researchers and John Schofield (co-author) explains that they simply wanted to see if it was possible to recreate a voice from the past, motivated by being able to create another way of being in touch with the past as it happens in a museum.
