The story behind the name 'App Store', an idea from the Salesforce CEO and a gift to Steve Jobs
Apple invented the concept of software store, right? Well, not really, although it was who popularized the idea and made it a real business. Online software stores already existed before the iPhone and in fact not even the name 'App Store' was Apple's idea.
Marc Benioff, CEO of the Salesforce company had the idea of an 'App Store' in 2003, many years before the launch of the Apple App Store and even the conception of the iPhone as such. He had even registered the AppStore.com domain and finally ended up giving it to Steve Jobs. But why?
