The first evidence that on Venus there are not only volcanoes but also active
Radar images of NASA's Magellan spacecraft in the early 1990s revealed that Venus was a world of volcanoes. However, until recently, the ages of lava eruptions and volcanoes on Venus were not well known.
Now, researchers from the USRA (Universities Space Research Association) at the Lunar and Planetary Institute (LPI) find that these volcanoes are currently active or, at least, have been very recently
As Justin Filiberto explains, head of the finding:
If Venus is really active today, it would be a great place to visit to better understand the interiors of the planets. For example, we could study how planets cool and why Earth and Venus have active volcanism, but Mars does not. Future missions should be able to see these flows and changes in the surface and provide concrete evidence of their activity.
